Staying Safe

Security Reminders and Recommendations

Reminders:
Check parking availability at convention site, and keep all doors and valuables locked in the trunk.

Check shuttle bus schedules to and from your convention site.

Remove all "Empty Storage" stickers from previous shows.

Do not mark the contents of your packages on the outside of the cartons and crates.

Keep "No Freight" aisles clear at all times.

Secure your staff's personal property, briefcases, coats, cameras, purses, toolboxes, etc.

Check age requirements for your convention. If children are not allowed on the show floor, you need to make other arrangements.

Do not leave booth unattended during move in and move out periods of the show. This is a very vulnerable time when thefts occur.

Try to avoid displaying merchandise until as close to the actual show opening as possible.

Make security arrangements for small, expensive prototype items during move in, show nights and move out. (Lock up room, security cages, etc.)

Have all exhibiting staff and guests pick up their own badges at registration.

Please discourage holding meetings or special demonstrations in your booth during non-show hours without receiving prior permission from Show Management.

Contact Show Management immediately if assistance is needed.

Remember to take your badges off when you leave the convention site. Don't make yourself a target.

If you are walking around the convention city, stay in groups of three or more.

Be aware of what is going on around you. If you feel uncomfortable, immediately move to a safe area where you can be in a crowd. (Walk into a store, etc.)

Recommendations:
All labor contractors (decorators, electricians, caterers, teamsters, etc.) are required to enter and exit out of one main door. These personnel would be required to sign in and out, even for lunches and breaks.

For exhibitors with the need to secure very valuable freight that will be delivered to the booth before an exhibitor arrives, the association may suggest a red security label be placed on their crates before shipping to show site. This will alert the dock personnel to place these items in a special secured area. Only the exhibitor will be allowed to give authorization for these items to be removed from the secured area and delivered to the booth.
