Badge Control Systems
Over the past eighteen years there has been one constant problem that has circumvented the Associations badge control systems. The problem is the non-official contractor on your show floor that has been exhibitor appointed. This the first of several phases of control that can be lost. We realize they are clearly part of your show production; however, no one knows who they are, or where they belong.

We at Simmons Security are prepared to tackle this age old problem. We have developed a program which should reduce confusion and assure all personnel on the show floor are identified by a non official contractor badge. This badge is hard plastic, 3" diameter, easy to read, and pins on. These will be issued to contracting groups, such as Nth Degree, Show Aids, Giltspur, etc. The badges will be issued to the NOC in numerical order. For example, Nth Degree badges 001-050, Show Aids badges 051-101, etc. If a worker is observed in an area in question, we can determine quickly which company they are working with. We all can attest that when people are identified, they tend to perform at a higher level. We find that most problems come from anonymous individuals.

There are several benefits to having Simmons service your badge program. The first being the cost of this program which is minimal. It includes Simmons personnel positioned by the loading dock to issue the badges to the NOC. This program also makes it possible to reduce your staff at the registration or service desk that would normally handle these questions and details. An additional benefit will be a check and balance system for insurance certificates. There will be less opportunity for the uninsured contractor getting on the show floor because the Association would provide a list of non official contractors that have not provided insurance certificates.

The second phase of the system will be a sticker dated daily by Simmons Security for miscellaneous delivery. This includes truck drivers, UPS, Federal Express, etc. These stickers will be destroyed after the delivery has been made. This would also include the short term worker (Example - local technicians who are on site to repair equipment).

The final phase of this program will address badges on show days. This phase will be handled on a show by show basis. Some possible solutions to this challenge would be:

  1. Designating specific badge numbers of the NOC badges to be allowed on the floor during show hours. The purposes entry would have to be approved by show management.
  2. Require NOC to obtain badges from their exhibitors. The problem with this system is that security and show management lose control by not being able to identify a non-official from an exhibitor.

During the challenging economic times, we have found that many Associations are looking for ways to reduce costs. We have found it very palatable to access a fee for producing and administering a system to control non official contractors. Our suggested rates are as follows; however, this may be adjusted to fit each individual Association needs:

OPTION 1
Charge for Badges: $3.00
Amount to Association: $0.00
Non-Refundable Deposit: $3.00 per badge

OPTION 2
Charge for Badges: $8.00
Amount to Association: $5.00
Non-Refundable Deposit: $3.00 per badge

OPTION 3
Charge for Badges: $13.00
Amount to Association: $10.00
Non-Refundable Deposit: $3.00 per badge

We are willing to be flexible and arrange the cost for the badges to best suit your needs. It has always cost the Association to control this group. Now they can assist the Association in covering the additional cost for them being on the exhibit floor.

Simmons Security Agency, Inc. is dedicated to enhancing the quality and efficiency of your convention. If you have an idea on this matter, we would certainly like to hear from you.
